Updated 23 October 2026. From 7 October, a bank card no longer covers every Urssaf payment. Below €1,000 it can. Above that, the pages point to a PIS transfer from your online space. The sum you already owe is not what these pages rewrite. This is a reading of three official pages, not advice from Urssaf, and not a substitute for the button in your own space.
Another door, for the same money. The plans for a store an AI launches and runs are on the AirPunk pricing page.
Service Public Entreprendre published the news on 9 October 2026. From 7 October 2026, paying social contributions or a debt by bank card is limited to amounts below €1,000. Only échéances or debts below €1,000 can still be settled by card. For amounts above €1,000, that page says a PIS transfer, Payment Initiation Service, is a suitable solution for self-employed workers, and that they start it from their online space. The Urssaf page on how to pay contributions, updated the same 7 October, states the ceiling again: the card is limited to amounts below €1,000, whatever the type of claim, a regular échéance or an occasional payment.
The exact euro of €1,000 does not get its own sentence. The card is described for amounts below €1,000. PIS is named for amounts above €1,000. If your line is exactly €1,000, the text to trust is the one your space shows that day. This page will not fill a gap the official pages left open.
Two practical details sit on the Urssaf payment page, next to the ceiling. Once a card payment is made, it can no longer be changed. A télépaiement can still be changed until the due date. Depending on the card, the debit on your account can be immediate or deferred, but the credit on Urssaf's side is immediate. The card is also not always on the menu. If you already have a direct-debit mandate, the card is only possible for some payments, such as debts or sums after a control. If you have a télépaiement mandate, the card is not offered.
Service Public addresses self-employed workers. The glossary on the same page defines that person as someone who works on their own account, and who may be a micro-entrepreneur, a sole trader, or a company. The page I opened on 23 October 2026 also shows a notice: the page does not concern micro-entrepreneurs, and it offers the contents written for them. Those two lines are on the same URL. I am not going to pretend they agree.
The Urssaf page on payment methods, updated 7 October 2026, does not use the word micro-entrepreneur. The PIS guide asks you to choose a profile, “Artisan, commerçant ou profession libérale non réglementée” or “Profession libérale réglementée”. It does not name a micro-entrepreneur profile. From these pages I cannot tell you whether a micro-entrepreneur is inside the ceiling or outside it. If that is your status, the page to reopen is the Urssaf page on how to pay contributions, and then your own space. This article is not the ruling.
One group has an earlier date, and Service Public states it cleanly. The measure has applied to medical practitioners and medical auxiliaries since 21 July 2025. For the other self-employed workers that page is talking about, the date it gives is 7 October 2026.
A PIS transfer is a bank transfer you start inside the Urssaf space. The guide, updated 23 April 2026, says Urssaf's bank details and the payment reference are sent to your bank for you, so you do not type them. That is also why the payment page presents it as a way to limit fraud. You need the login for the Urssaf space, and the login for your online bank. The steps below are the ones in the official PIS guide.
The guide says most French banks, and several foreign banks in the SEPA area, allow the online transfer. It tells you to check the list of available banks. A foreign SEPA bank that is on the list is reached by clicking the flag in the dropdown. If yours is missing, the guide does not describe a workaround. This page will not invent one.
For a current échéance, and for an échéance on a payment plan, PIS is possible only if you have not signed up for direct debit and you have not set up a télépaiement mandate. The order on the guide is this.
A debt is a separate path. The guide says a PIS payment of a debt is possible if you have not set up a télépaiement mandate. One debt per transaction. From the dashboard block “Situation du compte”, click “Consulter”. Or open “Cotisations & Paiements”, then “Récapitulatif des dettes”. Select one debt, click “Payer une dette”, choose “Payer par virement”, then “Valider le paiement”, and log in to the bank as above.
The other methods are still on the payment page, and the ceiling does not delete them. Direct debit takes the contribution every month or every quarter. It covers current échéances and payment-plan échéances. It does not cover occasional payments, such as debts or sums after a control: for those, the page sends you to télépaiement or to the card, under the conditions above. You set direct debit up by recording your bank details and validating a SEPA mandate. Télépaiement is an order you send to your bank through the site. You can change it or cancel it until the day before the échéance. The page says the service is free. It covers current échéances, payment plans, and occasional payments.
Read the amount in your space, then the method that page still offers for that amount.
Typing Urssaf's bank details by hand. The PIS guide exists so the reference is sent for you.
The three pages do not print your personal due date. It is in the space. What they do print is enough to decide the method before you are in a hurry.
Two other pieces of paperwork, on another calendar, are already written up here: the 2027 budget note for freelancers and micro-entrepreneurs, and the end of the simplified VAT regime in 2027. Neither of those is this ceiling. This one is about how a sum is paid.
Read the three pages for what they actually change. They limit a payment method. They do not print a new contribution, a new rate, or a fine attached to this ceiling. I will not invent one. If the click does not go through, the sum is still the sum that was already on the échéance. The administration added a ceiling, a second login and a menu, and left the amount where it was. That is the friction, and it is enough of a fact without decorating it.
A payment-method rule and an amount owed are different things. Use the official notice as a starting point, then let the options in your own Urssaf space decide the available route for that claim. Keep a dated record of the result, especially near a deadline.
This checklist is about verifying a payment, not reducing contributions. The linked Urssaf and Service Public pages remain the authority for the rule and its scope.
| Method | What the pages say |
|---|---|
| Bank card | Amounts below €1,000, whatever the claim. Not offered if a télépaiement mandate exists. Narrower if a direct-debit mandate exists. Cannot be changed once it is paid. |
| PIS transfer | Named for amounts above €1,000. Started in the online space. Bank details and the reference are sent for you. One debt per transaction. |
| Direct debit | Monthly or quarterly. Current échéances and payment plans. Not occasional debts or sums after a control. |
| Télépaiement | You send the order. Editable until the day before the échéance. Current échéances, payment plans, and occasional payments. The page says it is free. |
Yes, for amounts below €1,000, from 7 October 2026, whatever the type of claim. Above €1,000, Service Public and Urssaf point to a PIS transfer. The exact amount of €1,000 is not given its own sentence. A télépaiement mandate means the card is not offered. A direct-debit mandate limits the card to some payments, such as debts or sums after a control.
A transfer you start in the Urssaf online space. Your bank receives Urssaf's details and the payment reference, so you do not type them. You log in to Urssaf, then to your bank. The guide I read was updated on 23 April 2026. The ceiling that pushes larger sums toward this method is the change of 7 October 2026.
The pages do not say it cleanly. Service Public's news page shows a notice that it does not concern micro-entrepreneurs, while its glossary includes the micro-entrepreneur in the definition of a self-employed worker. The Urssaf payment page does not use the word. If that is your status, open the Urssaf page on payment methods, and your own space. This article will not choose for them.
No. It changes the payment method once the card no longer covers the sum. The three pages do not print a new rate, and they do not print a fine for this ceiling. The amount on the échéance is still the amount. Only the way across the door has changed.
The guide says most French banks and several foreign SEPA banks allow the transfer, and it tells you to check the list. It does not describe a fallback for a bank that is absent. Direct debit and télépaiement remain on the payment page, with the limits in the table above. Your space is where you see which of them is actually offered to you.
